IMPACT Academy637332576982970000 In 2019 Officer Jay Farmer and Cpl. Jessica Thorlacius created a summer program for Middle School students called the GFPD IMPACT Academy. IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Partnership, Accountability, Community and Tenacity. Our goal is to help create leaders and role models in our community. We want our kids to build skills that help them to mature into successful adults. We plan to do this by helping our students to be active, contributing members of our community. By seeing the impact that they can make, in a positive way, it will help them be more responsible with their decisions. We keep busy with a variety of different activities throughout the summer, including bike riding, swimming, volunteering, gardening, safety lessons, and a concluding trip to the Character Challenge Course in Park Rapids, MN. The Grand Forks Park District generously provided free passes to Choice Health and Fitness, as well as the outdoor pools. They allow us to use the Blue Line Club Arena as our “Home Base” for the summer, which is where we start and end each day. Cities Area Transit also generously provides each student with a bus pass, which they use all summer. We spend a lot of time on bicycles, and have some that can be borrowed, if your child doesn’t have access to one. Safe Kids also be provides each student with a free helmet, and we conduct some initial safety lessons with all students at the program. We eat our lunches in the park each day, which are provided for free by St. Joseph’s Social Care. As a way to give back, students help to prepare and serve those lunches as well. We take a trip to the Character Challenge Course in Park Rapids, MN, which is paid for by the Fraternal Order of Police. Our Academy wouldn’t look complete without matching shirts, which are provided by Gemini Custom Brands. Our program was canceled in 2020, due to COVID-19. This has given us an opportunity to focus on making 2021 an amazing summer! We have also been selected as the recipients of the 2021 Rydell Car and Bike Show funds, which will help us to make sure the IMPACT Academy is better than ever! If you have a Middle School student that would be interested in participating in the IMPACT Academy, please have them speak with their School Resource Officer (SRO). Giving Hearts Day

Giving Hearts Day is the largest 24-hour giving event in North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. Each year, thousands of people rally around hundreds of nonprofits in our community saying, "count me" as a Giving Heart for charity. Giving Hearts Day is sponsored by Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF), Impact Institute, and the Alex Stern Family Foundation. Formed in the 1960s by a group of pioneering physicians and community leaders, DMF laid the foundation for the building of Dakota Hospital, which was eventually sold in 1994. For more than two decades, DMF has used the investment returns from that sale to invest more than $100 million in health initiatives that increase the impact of more than 400 regional nonprofits. Each year, Giving Hearts Day creates a platform for charities to fund their missions through an ever-increasing community of givers. Top 5 Facts about Giving Hearts Day *2019 is our 12th year *Last year, more than 28,000 people donated $13.1 million on Giving Hearts Day *More than 450 nonprofits and charitable funds are part of Giving Hearts Day this year – making this our largest group EVER! *100% of the donations made on Giving Hearts Day go directly to the charities *Since 2008, tens of thousands of generous donors have given almost $55 million on Giving Hearts Day Other Cool Things about Giving Hearts Day *We’ve done the research – Giving Hearts Day is the first and longest-running giving day in the United States! *Giving Hearts Day runs a full 24 hours on February 14, 2019 *You can give from anywhere on the planet – but just on that day *The minimum contribution is $10 *You can donate to as many charities as you wish – the average donor gave to 2.3 charities last year About Dakota Medical Foundation Dakota Medical Foundation was founded from the sale of Dakota Hospital Funded by investments. The Next Generation in Tailgates - 2019 GMC Multi-Pro

The Next Generation GMC Sierra’s available MultiPro Tailgate is more than just a tailgate. Like a multi-purpose tool it can be configured and positioned to function in several different ways. A true professional grade tool should be designed to serve more than one purpose. While pickup owners use their cargo boxes for a wider variety of tasks now more than ever, the pickup’s tailgate hadn’t evolved accordingly. This changes with the Next Generation 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 and the Next Generation 2020 Sierra Heavy Duty, which offer the World’s First Six-Function MultiPro™ Tailgate on 2019 Sierra Denali, Sierra AT4, and Sierra SLT models. WHAT IS MULTIPRO? Although it can be positioned for use in several different ways, Sierra’s MultiPro Tailgate is essentially two tailgates in one. MultiPro’s design consists of the primary gate – which is hinged like a conventional tailgate – and a smaller inner gate, which is hinged within the primary gate panel itself. Raising and lowering these two tailgate panels in different combinations allows MultiPro to take on a variety of different roles, ranging from a bed extender to an entry step, and many functions in between. Above all else, MultiPro is designed to be a strong, durable and useful tool. As such, GMC engineers focused on not only designing the tailgate according to pickup owner input in order to maximize its functionality and convenience, but also designed it to be strong and dependable, no matter how it’s used. “We exhaustively test every tailgate on our trucks, but we went even further with MultiPro,” says Derek Patterson, an engineer on the GMC MultiPro design team. “We’ve slammed both tailgate panels tens of thousands of times. We’ve duplicated a variety of real-world scenarios, including carrying cargo in and out of the box, or loading heavy motorcycles on ramps. We’ve cycled through its different configurations in a variety of climates and environments. All told, we wanted MultiPro to be as durable and professional grade as the Next Generation Sierra itself.” OUTDOOR AUDIO If you’re setting up a campsite or tailgating at the big game, and want to bring your music outdoors and closer to you – but don’t want to leave your truck running in order to play the stereo – the available Kicker MultiPro Sound System accessory can be quite handy. Designed expressly for Sierra 1500 models with the MultiPro tailgate and offered and installed by GMC dealers, the Kicker MultiPro Sound System accessory† is a 100-watt exterior audio system neatly integrated within MultiPro’s inner gate panel. The system incorporates two 4" coaxial drivers, a compact amplifier and controls, a USB port for device charging and flash memory playback, along with full Bluetooth streaming compatibility. The MultiPro Sound System is integrated into Sierra’s MultiPro Tailgate, but it operates independently of Sierra – the truck does not need to be on or running for the system to function, and a low current draw allows it to play for hours. The system also uses a tilt switch to automatically power down once the inner gate step is folded shut and the tailgate closed. Like Sierra and MultiPro Tailgate itself, the sound system was designed and extensively validated to ensure it remains rugged and ready. Kicker’s expertise in creating audio components and speakers designed for boats, ATVs, motorcycles, and other vehicles exposed to the elements was leveraged in ensuring the components in this system can live up to the demands of a pickup truck’s box. The MultiPro Sound System is further protected by an ABS custom baffle, which is fully gasketed to prevent moisture and dirt intrusion. Additionally, the system’s wiring harness, connectors, and plugs are weather resistant for further protection.
