-
Ken specializes in engine replacements, transmission repairs, and vehicle maintenance, the kind of major work that requires experience, precision, and patience.
One thing a guest might not realize? The computer doesn’t always give the answer. Real repairs still take hands-on knowledge and careful diagnosis.
Ken’s path into the industry started early after getting stranded with his uncle, who was a technician, a moment that sparked his interest in the field. He officially got his start working in customer service at Sears, while repairing his own vehicles on the side.
What Ken enjoys most is the gratitude that comes from helping someone and doing the job right. Some of his most satisfying work has been full engine rebuilds.
Ken’s top tips: Follow your vehicle’s maintenance intervals, check your oil regularly, and don’t ignore flashing check engine lights, brake issues, or warning lights.

Brandon’s favorite part of the job is exactly that: diagnosing new issues and figuring them out. He also appreciates the great coworkers and positive culture that make Rydell a great place to work.
Brandon’s top tip: Stay on top of scheduled maintenance—especially oil changes every 5,000 miles. And if you notice warning lights or abnormal noises, it’s time to schedule service ASAP.
Paul S.
- Year started at Rydell
- 1992
- Certifications
- Honda Master Technician, ASE Master Certified, Honda EV Certified
- A bit about him
-
If your Honda has a complex electrical concern or a problem that doesn’t come with an obvious answer, chances are Paul Sobolik is the technician tackling it. Paul does a little of everything on Hondas, from engine repairs to installing remote starts, but his true strengths are diagnostics and electrical systems, where precision and problem-solving matter most.
What’s Paul’s specialty?
Paul works across the board on Honda vehicles, handling everything from engine repair to accessories, with a primary focus on diagnostics and electrical work.
One thing guests might not realize
Modern vehicles don’t simply “tell us what’s wrong.” Paul explains that while computers are tools, they’re only the beginning. Real answers come from research, troubleshooting, and hands-on testing, especially with today’s highly complex vehicles.
Why he became a technician
Paul’s passion started early. A trip to River Cities Speedway at just 6 or 7 years old sparked his interest, and by the time he was 10 to 12, he had completely fallen in love with cars.
How he got started
After high school, Paul attended UTI in Phoenix, Arizona, building his technical foundation. He was hired at Rydell at just 20 years old, where he’s continued to grow his career ever since.
The most important lesson he’s learned
Two principles guide Paul’s career: never stop learning and always be respectful.
Favorite part of the job
Paul genuinely enjoys working with his hands and figuring problems out. For him, the challenge is part of the reward.
Most satisfying repair he’s ever done
One repair stands out above the rest. Paul rebuilt a Honda Pilot that arrived from a body shop with nearly everything removed, the front end, doors, full interior, dashboard, headliner, and HVAC system. After putting the entire vehicle back together with no leftover bolts or screws, he started it up to zero warning lights. That moment, he says, was an incredible feeling.
Favorite thing about working at Rydell
For Paul, it’s the family-first culture. He’s always been deeply involved in his kids’ activities and has needed flexibility over the years. Rydell’s understanding and support of family means everything to him, and it’s something he truly appreciates.
Paul’s advice for taking care of your vehicle
Paul encourages guests to stay on top of maintenance, find a technician you trust, and build a strong relationship with your service advisor.
One maintenance tip he wishes everyone followed
Change your fluids regularly. While some manufacturers claim certain fluids are “lifetime,” Paul stresses that our climate is hard on vehicles, and those services should be done more often than advertised.
Signs you should schedule service ASAP
If you notice any of the following, don’t wait:- Grinding noises
- Squealing noises
- Knocking sounds
- Burnt electrical smells
Fun fact about Paul
Paul was born with a spinal defect and underwent two major back surgeries at age 13, resulting in 6–8 inches of fusion and two 12-inch rods. Despite that, he’s spent 30 plus years working as a technician and never let it slow him down. He and his wife have raised three great kids, and today two of them race sprint cars. Life is busy, challenging, and, as Paul puts it, amazing.
